Rapper Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Prison Stabbing Incident

Rapper Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Prison Stabbing Incident – Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized on Monday morning following a stabbing incident at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion, sustained multiple injuries after being attacked by a fellow inmate with a makeshift weapon.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), the stabbing took place at approximately 7:20 a.m. in a housing unit yard. Prison staff reportedly acted swiftly, providing immediate medical assistance and activating emergency protocols. Lanez was then transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was treated and later confirmed to be in stable condition.

A statement from the CDCR spokesperson, Pedro Calderón Michel, confirmed that law enforcement was investigating the matter. The Office of the Inspector General was also notified. The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear as of now. TMZ, the first outlet to report on the incident, stated that the altercation is under active investigation by both the prison authorities and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

An Instagram post from an account associated with Lanez claimed that the rapper had been stabbed 14 times—seven times in the back, twice in the back of the head, and once in the face—resulting in a collapsed lung. Despite the severity of the attack, the post noted that Lanez is now breathing independently and remains in “good spirits,” expressing gratitude for surviving the assault.

Lanez, 32, has remained a controversial figure since his conviction in December 2022 for assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a gun. The charges stem from a July 2020 incident in which Lanez shot Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, legally known as Megan Pete, in the feet following an argument. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023.

Even behind bars, Lanez continues to be entangled in legal issues. Megan Thee Stallion filed a restraining order request in December 2024, alleging continued harassment and defamation by Lanez through online proxies, including bloggers and social media personalities. A Los Angeles judge granted the restraining order in January 2025, extending protection for Pete until 2030.

This latest incident has raised concerns over inmate safety within California’s prison system and may prompt further scrutiny of security protocols at the California Correctional Institution. As investigations continue, there has been no comment from Lanez’s legal team regarding the incident or his current condition beyond the social media update.

The attack adds another layer of controversy and drama to Lanez’s already turbulent legal saga, casting a spotlight not only on the artist’s troubled history but also on the conditions of high-profile inmates in the state prison system.
