It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel Desmond McLean, who left this world peacefully on October 5th, 2025, at The Milesian Manor Nursing Home, Magherafelt. Known to all simply as Desmond, he was a man of warmth, integrity, and steadfast devotion to his family and community.
A cherished husband to Joan, his life was a testament to partnership, love, and faith. Together they built a home full of kindness, laughter, and shared memories at Lurganagoose Road, Knockloughrim.
As a proud father to Andrew, Joanne, and Nigel, and a caring father-in-law to Susan, Raymond, and Alison, Desmond was the heart of his family. His grandchildren — Nicole (Matthew), Lee (Christina), Michael (Victoria), Hayley (Barry), and Mark — were his pride and joy. In his later years, he found endless delight in being a great-granda to Callum and Olivia, whose laughter brought him immense happiness.
He will be fondly remembered as a loving brother to Anna and Patricia, and he now reunites with his late sister Margaret. His quiet strength, generosity, and calm presence will remain an enduring source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
Though his passing leaves a great void, Desmond’s life is one to be celebrated — a life lived with compassion, humility, and deep faith. His legacy will live on in the love of his family and the countless lives he touched.
