Finn Free Geneva, AL, Obituary and Death: First grader at James A. Mulkey Elementary School Has Died

Geneva City Schools family is devastated by the heartbreaking loss of one of our youngest students, Finn Free, a first grader at James A. Mulkey Elementary School. Finn was the beloved son of Mrs. Kayla Free, a third-grade teacher at our school, and her husband, Mr. Gavin Free.

Finn’s passing has left our school and community in deep sorrow. He was a bright, joyful, and kind-hearted child who brought smiles to everyone around him. Whether in the classroom or on the playground, Finn’s laughter, curiosity, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on classmates, teachers, and staff alike.

There are simply no words to express the depth of this tragedy. The loss of a child is unimaginable, and our hearts ache for the Free, Howell, and Fountain families. We ask that the entire Geneva community join us in surrounding them with love, strength, and prayers during this time of profound grief.

To support our students and staff in the days ahead, our school counselors and mental health team will be available on campus next week. Grief is a heavy burden, but we will carry it together, as one school family, leaning on one another for comfort and healing.

We also want to thank our Geneva community for the outpouring of compassion and support that has already begun to flow. Your kind words, prayers, and acts of care remind us of the strength we have in one another, especially during life’s most difficult moments.

As we mourn the loss of Finn, we also remember the joy he brought into our lives, even in his short time with us. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Please continue to lift up the Free family in your thoughts. Let us stand united in love and compassion as we honor Finn’s memory and support those who loved him most.

Rest in peace, sweet Finn. Your light will continue to shine in our hearts forever.
