The tragic story surrounding former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy has taken a dramatic and unexpected turn, as new evidence appears to challenge the official narrative in the fatal crash that led to criminal charges against him. Lacy, who died earlier this year, had been facing multiple serious charges, including negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle in connection with a December 17, 2024, crash in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.
The accident claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hall and left two others injured. At the time, Louisiana State Police claimed Lacy’s reckless driving — including swerving and passing multiple cars — initiated a chain reaction that led to the deadly collision. They alleged his actions caused another driver to swerve and collide with Hall’s vehicle.
However, on October 3, 2025, Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, spoke to HTV10 and presented newly surfaced gas station surveillance footage that may significantly alter the case. According to Ory, the video proves that Lacy was not directly involved in the crash and was, in fact, approximately 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the moment of impact.
“He was back in his lane … 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact,” Ory stated. “That is not how this story was ever painted, never.”
Ory acknowledged that Lacy had passed four cars before the crash occurred, but emphasized that he was no longer engaged in any dangerous maneuver at the time of the collision. He maintains that the video exonerates his client and proves the police’s version of events to be misleading.
Despite this new footage, Louisiana State Police remain firm in their original assessment. In a statement, they reaffirmed their stance, saying, “His swerving, passing cars, and reckless operation caused the series of crash events.”
The renewed scrutiny of the case has sparked public interest and reignited debate around Lacy’s death, which some now speculate may have been influenced by the legal and emotional burden he faced. The cause of his death has not been officially disclosed, but many are calling for a deeper investigation in light of this new evidence.
As the story continues to unfold, the Lacy family and supporters hope that the truth will come to light, bringing justice not only for Kyren but also for the family of Herman Hall.
