The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a heartbreaking shooting that claimed the lives of two children and left two others critically injured early Saturday morning.
Deputies responded to the scene around 4:48 a.m. and found four children suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. Despite lifesaving efforts, a 13-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene.
An 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were airlifted to a Houston-area hospital, where they remain in stable condition following emergency treatment.
Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 31-year-old Oninda Romelus, the mother of the victims. Investigators believe the shooting occurred inside the vehicle before deputies arrived.
Romelus has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond is set at $14 million.
Sheriff Stallman called the incident “heartbreaking and deeply disturbing,” praising deputies for their swift response and urging the community to keep the surviving children in their prayers as the investigation continues.
