The Baltimore community and Ravens Flock are mourning the loss of Wes Henson, better known to thousands as “Captain Dee-fense”, a proud Ravens Superfan and cherished resident of Baltimore, Maryland. Wes passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and unwavering spirit that touched countless lives.
More than just a face in the stands, Wes was an angel on earth to many. Known for his bold presence at Ravens games with his iconic DE-FENSE signs, Wes brought unmatched energy and passion to every moment of cheering on his team. Yet, his greatest impact was not just in the stadium, but in the lives he touched beyond it.
When Maddie suffered her accident in 2012, Wes—without hesitation—showed up at the hospital, lifting spirits with fellow superfans and even a princess. What began as one visit turned into many, as Wes sat for hours sharing stories, laughter, and encouragement. He continued to visit, support fundraisers, and bring light to families in need—all without expectation, simply because he cared.
Over the years, Wes never forgot a name, a face, or a story. Whether at Ravens games, charity events, or the Polar Bear Plunge, he carried his joy and compassion everywhere he went. He was a true friend, a blessing, and an inspiration.
The Ravens Flock and all who loved him will forever remember his kindness, his booming chants, and his devotion to community.
Rest in peace, Captain Dee-fense. Your light will never fade.
