The Lewis University community and residents of Saskatoon are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Baden Boyenko, a standout student-athlete whose promising life was cut short following a fatal accident.
Boyenko, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was a proud member of the Lewis University Athletics program, where he was known for his talent, dedication, and leadership both on and off the field. University officials confirmed his passing this week, calling it a devastating loss for the entire Flyers athletics family.
“Baden embodied everything we value in a student-athlete — commitment, integrity, and heart,” one coach said. “He gave his best every single day and inspired others to do the same.”
Boyenko’s teammates and coaches described him as a hardworking and passionate competitor who approached every challenge with enthusiasm. His positive attitude and drive for excellence made him a respected presence within the Lewis Athletics community.
Before joining Lewis University, Boyenko developed a love for sports early in his hometown of Saskatoon, where his dedication and talent quickly set him apart. His pursuit of both academic and athletic excellence led him to the United States, where he continued to make a lasting impact among peers and professors alike.
Outside of athletics, Boyenko was remembered as a devoted son, brother, and friend — someone who was as genuine and kind off the field as he was competitive on it. Friends recalled his humor, humility, and ability to make everyone around him feel valued.
“Baden had a way of lifting others up,” said a teammate. “He was the kind of person who made everyone better — as athletes and as people.”
The university has extended condolences to the Boyenko family and announced that grief counseling and support services will be made available to students and staff affected by the tragedy.
As the Saskatoon and Lewis communities come together to remember him, many are reflecting on the legacy Boyenko leaves behind — one defined by perseverance, compassion, and an enduring love for the game.
“His passing is an unimaginable loss,” said one university official. “But the spirit and character he showed every day will continue to inspire everyone who knew him.”
