The Mornington Cricket Club and wider community are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Cody Judkins, a young man whose life was cut short in an unimaginable accident involving a lightning strike. Cody passed away doing something he loved—being part of the cricket community that meant so much to him. His untimely death has left family, friends, teammates, and coaches in deep sorrow, struggling to process the loss of such a bright and beloved soul.
Cody was more than just a promising cricketer—he was a kind-hearted friend, a devoted teammate, and a source of light and laughter to everyone around him. From an early age, he showed a passion for the game that extended well beyond the pitch. His energy, determination, and sportsmanship made him an integral part of the Mornington Cricket Club, where he proudly played a key role in the U12 premiership team during the 2018/19 season.
But Cody’s impact went far beyond statistics or scores. He was the type of person who lifted others up—encouraging younger players, showing respect to coaches, and offering genuine friendship to all. His positive spirit was infectious, and his presence at the club left a mark that will never be forgotten.
Even as he moved through life beyond the junior leagues, Cody remained close to the cricket community, maintaining the friendships and values that defined his character: loyalty, compassion, humility, and joy. He exemplified the best of what it means to be a teammate—not just in sport, but in life.
The Mornington Cricket Club extends its deepest condolences to Cody’s family, friends, and loved ones during this time of immense grief. The entire club stands together in mourning and in gratitude for the time we were lucky enough to share with him.
To honour Cody’s memory, we encourage all members of our community to carry forward his spirit—by being kind, by supporting one another, and by playing the game with heart, just as Cody did.
Rest in peace, Cody Judkins. You will always be part of the Mornington family.
