We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Banwari Godara, a 23-year-old Fresno resident who tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting on the evening of Saturday, October 18. This senseless act of violence has left a family heartbroken, a community in mourning, and many searching for answers.
Banwari and a 21-year-old companion were discovered outside an urgent care clinic near Shaw and Brawley Avenues shortly after 8:00 p.m. Both men had sustained gunshot wounds and were quickly transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Tragically, Banwari succumbed to his injuries. His companion was treated and later released.
Initial reports suggested the shooting occurred near the shopping center, but further investigation revealed the actual crime scene to be several miles away at a truck repair yard along the 5400 block of South Cedar Avenue, located in the county jurisdiction of Fresno. Evidence recovered at the truck yard confirmed it as the site of the shooting. Fresno Police quickly coordinated with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to hand over the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
Banwari Godara had recently moved to Fresno from San Jose in search of new opportunities and a better future. Those who knew him speak of a young man full of potential, kindness, and quiet ambition. He was a beloved son, a loyal friend, and a valued member of his community. His sudden and tragic passing has left a deep void in the hearts of many.
To Banwari’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his life, we offer our heartfelt sympathies. We cannot begin to imagine the pain you are experiencing, but we stand in solidarity with you during this time of profound loss. May the memories of Banwari’s warmth, generosity, and spirit bring some measure of comfort as you navigate the difficult days ahead.
We honor Banwari Godara not only in mourning his death but in celebrating the life he lived. May justice be served, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
