At just 21 years old, Benard’s life was taken far too soon, and his passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Emergency responders were called to a residence on Central Avenue just before 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, where they discovered Benard with a fatal laceration. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:21 a.m. by a representative from the Lake County Coroner’s Office, who later ruled his death a homicide. Investigators believe this was a deliberate act, carried out inside his own home before dawn—a crime that has left the community in shock and mourning.
An autopsy is being conducted at the forensic center in Crown Point, and multiple law enforcement agencies, including Lake Station Police, state crime scene experts, and the fire department, are working diligently to uncover the truth. As of now, no suspect has been identified, and no arrests have been made. The Taylor family, and the community at large, deserve answers and justice.
Benard will be remembered not only for the tragedy of his passing but for the light he brought to those around him during his life. Friends and family describe him as spirited, loyal, and full of life. He had dreams and ambitions that reflected his drive and potential, and he was known for his kind nature and strong connection to those he held close.
