Santos, 40, was found slumped over in the driver’s seat of his vehicle after suffering a fatal gunshot wound. He was discovered in the early hours of the morning by a neighbor in Debbie Park Trailer Park on NE 31st Terrace.
Authorities from the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call just after 3 a.m. and quickly confirmed that Santos had died from a gunshot wound. His car had crashed before coming to a stop, but it remains unclear whether the shooting caused the crash or vice versa. The case has since been classified as a homicide, and detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
At the time of writing, no suspect has been identified, and investigators have not released any details regarding a possible motive. Crime scene technicians and homicide detectives worked through the morning to collect evidence, analyze vehicle damage, and canvass the area for witnesses. Residents of the trailer park remain in shock, describing the neighborhood as typically quiet and safe. Santos was known as a familiar, respectful, and private member of the community—someone who lived peacefully and without causing harm to others.
Santos Gaucin will be remembered for the life he lived and the impact he had on those who knew him. Though quiet in nature, he was a kind soul whose presence will be deeply missed by family and neighbors alike.
